The Village of Hillman has plenty of retail shopping including grocery stores, party stores, hardware, lumber, and a sports shop. Dining includes restaurants, bars, and the Senior Center for congregate meals, and the local VFW provides meals.

Thunder Bay Resort provides golf, rooms, dining, and the famous Elk Ride that is considered one of the top ten rides of its type in the United States.

Included in Hillman are an elder friendly assisted living facility and a skilled nursing facility and Thunder Bay Community Health Services for medical needs. The Hillman Pharmacy is available for prescriptions.

Hillman has resorts in the surrounding area including Jacks Landing, Killions Landing which are both on Fletcher's Floodwaters, and Sorrensons' on Grass Lake.

The Village of Hillman has just finished the Emerick Park Playground and Pickleball Court Project in Emerick Park. This includes a new parking area, walking paths to access the area, a new Pickleball Court and new playground equipment. Along with the playground equipment are a merry go round, picnic tables, new swings and new garbage receptacles.

This project was funded by a grant from the Michigan Department of Natural Resources Passport Grant. Contributions to the project were: MDNR: $131,200; Village of Hillman: $35,800 and Hillman Power Company: $25,000.

The Village of Hillman would like to thank the MDNR and Hillman Power Company for funding and helping to make this project successful. The Village Council would also like to thank Huron Engineering for all their help with this project.

Joint Online Recreation Survey Conducted by the Village of Hillman and Hillman Township

The Northeast Michigan Council of Governments (NEMCOG) is assisting the Village of Hillman and Hillman Township with updating their Recreation Plan. The Village and Township are collaboratively developing a joint community recreation plan.

A Community Recreation Plan contains plans for all recreational facilities within these communities. Communities are required to have 5-Year DNR-approved Recreation Plans to qualify for grant funding from the Michigan DNR. Citizen input is critical to help draft the plan.

Here’s how you can help. The village and township have developed an online recreation survey to gather public opinions on recreation, and they hope to hear from everyone who uses recreational facilities in the area. If you would like to give your opinion on parks and recreation in the Hillman area to help them plan for future improvements, please take the online survey. The survey takes approximately 10 minutes to complete and is available online on the following websites: hillmanmichigan.org, hillmantownship.com, and discovernortheastmichigan.org/recreation.asp.

For those without internet access, you may pick up a printed survey at the Township or Village offices, or the Hillman Wright Library.

Township and Village officials are encouraging citizens in and around Hillman to fill out and submit this survey because public input is a vital component of the future of the area and the public’s opinion is highly valued.

VILLAGE OF HILLMAN COUNCIL MEETING SCHEDULE FOR 2024 PLANNING COMMISSION MEETING SCHEDULE FOR 2025

The Village of Hillman Council meetings for the Calendar year of 2025 will be held on the First (1 st ) and Third (3 rd ) Tuesday of each month at 6:00 p.m. in the east-end conference room of the Hillman Community Center at 24220 Veterans Memorial Highway, Hillman, Michigan. All meetings are open to the public.

The Village of Hillman Planning Commission Board meetings are held on the Third (3 rd ) Monday of each quarter at 6 p.m. These meetings will be held on Monday, January 20, Monday, April 21, Monday, July 21, and Monday, October 20 unless otherwise posted. The meetings are held in the east-end conference room of the Hillman Community Center at 24220 Veterans Memorial Highway, Hillman, Michigan. All meetings are open to the public.
